ROBLOX SCRIPTING

ROBLOX SCRIPTING

How I Started It

As I approached the age of 11, my daily routine generally consisted of school and a bit of video game playing. However, I was not like most children my age; it wasn't just about gameplay for me, I often wondered about how they worked. For example, I would ponder how I could press a button in real life and something moves on the screen. I never thought about it too seriously but those questions sparked my curiosity which was with me since then. Then, after I started playing Roblox, I became more invested with development. Playing Roblox for a 1-2 years made me interested in making a game of my own, among the thousands on the platform.

How I Start Learning it

Upon opening Roblox Studio on my desktop for the first time, I was utterly confused. It all seemed so complicated, all the buttons, GUIs, text, and everything else. As a young mind, I went into the toolbox and picked out a model I liked. The first model I placed was a military headquarters. Suddenly it hit me, I want to build a game like Jailbreak, Mad City, or Prison Life. Then I went back to the toolbox and searched for a scripted model of a laser.
When I discovered the laser, I placed the object inside the military headquarters in a randomly selected location, with the intention of causing issues for the player. To my amazement, it created the problem I wanted. I was ecstatic! Then, I thought about a cash flow opportunity for the military headquarters. Unfortunately, I had no such option in the toolbox I had at the time. Honestly, the toolbox was the only resource I had at the time to create a game, as I had also not yet learned scripting. I recently reflected on this moment and thought, if I could learn how the script in the Model of the laser works, I would teach myself coding. If I hadn't taken this leap of faith, I have no doubt that I would not have a programming career today. I have continued to learn from existing scripts in the same manner, and I still do so today.

Am I Happy Of What I Just Did

Of course, I was absolutely delighted with my accomplishment. It changed my life and it changed my career, and I realized that I had a true ability to program. I really loved programming: it was something pleasurable, it was enjoyable, it was money-making for me, and I was able to actually learn how things really were. I am currently working hard learning Lua, among other programming languages.
